FABRICIO COLOCCINI is poised to make his return from a groin injury to bolster Chris Hughton’’s side for the trip to face Sheffield United.
And Hughton is still hoping that Steven Taylor can also make a return from a hamstring problem that has left him without his influential centreback during the season’’s worst run of results.
The Argentine has returned to full training after sustaining a groin injury in the 4-0 win at Ipswich Town in September.
Hughton told the Chronicle today: “Coloccini trained yesterday, so unless he breaks down, we’re confident he’ll be fit.
“We’re building up Steven Taylor this week, and we’re very hopeful he’ll play on Monday, and also Danny Simpson.
“Realistically, we’ll be looking at Saturday.
He’s been doing some very good work, and, hopefully, he’ll join in with the group on Saturday. Yet Danny Simpson must prove to Hughton that his injured ankle can sustain the rigours of facing a tough tackling Sheffield United outfit.
He said: “Danny hasn’t trained, but, of course, he’s been involved in the games at Scunthorpe and Forest, so his fitness isn’t an issue.
“We’re hoping he’ll be training on Saturday.
FORMER Hull striker Dean Windass has called for manager Phil Brown to be “moved on” amid speculation the powerbase at the struggling Premier League club was set for a change.
A number of bookmakers yesterday suspended betting on Brown being the next Premier League manager to leave his job.
The Tigers responded to the ensuing speculation in a statement last night to deny Brown’s position was under review. However, uncertainty remained with reports that former chairman Adam Pearson was set to make a shock return to the club.
Pearson last night resigned from his post as chairman of football at Derby and heightened speculation he is set to replace current Tigers chairman Paul Duffen, a close friend of Brown, at the KC Stadium.
Regardless of the powerbroking, Windass believes the Tigers are in need of a change of leadership after taking just eight points from their opening 10 games of the season.
Windass, who left Hull in January, told talkSPORT magazine: “I think sometimes you need a fresh change.
“Phil’s done a fantastic job, but I think it’s time that he should get moved on and bring somebody else in.”
Windass also questioned vertical training whether the club could stay up this season, adding: “It’s going to be difficult.”
